Our history
Work Achievements
Catherine worked at the newly created Jersey Archive from 1994 – 2001, and was part of its development from one room in the Jersey Museum to a purpose built repository in Clarence Road, St Helier, which opened in 2000. She was promoted to Senior Archivist in 1999.

After taking part in The Times Clipper Round the World Yacht Race in 2001 she worked at The Women's Library, London on the Genesis Project. This involved travelling around the UK visiting a variety of archives and libraries, collating information about collections relating to women's history to put on a central website.

Catherine returned home to Jersey in 2004 to get married and work in the office at The National Trust for Jersey. She has taken some time off to have two children, but through an enquiry to the Jersey Archive started work on her first private archive collection in 2010. She is delighted to be back working with archives again and offering a service not previously available in the Island.

Examples of collections Catherine catalogued at the Jersey Archive (they can be found on the Jersey Heritage database):

  • L/A/01 Overseas Trading Corporation Limited – an export business archive dating from 1876 when it relocated to Jersey. A large employer in the Island, there are many photographs of staff receiving long service awards. Many younger Islanders would probably be surprised to learn that the Island was once home to a tea packing and tomato canning factory that once produced Jersey Lily Tomato Sauce. The collection has hundreds of items and it took two years to catalogue.
  • D/J States of Jersey Education Records – another large collection dating back to 1872 and containing school annual returns, inspector's reports and log books. Also records and photographs from the Jersey Home for Boys and Jersey Home for Girls.
  • L/C/32 Quérée Legal Documents – legal documents dating between 1566 – 1916, mainly relating to rente (a form of mortgage).
  • D/N Sport, Leisure & Recreation, Fort Regent Plans – A huge collection of plans detailing the changes Fort Regent underwent during the 1960s and 1970s.
  • L/D/07 Trinity Agricultural Society – Minute books, committee reports and accounts 1899 – 1923.
